Sew to Say

Sew to Say is the Utopia Film Festival’s best documentary for 2023. The Reel and Meal at the New Deal Cafe is happy to have this inspiring work in an encore screening on Monday, December 18th at 7PM.

The film documents the 1980’s women’s vigil and protest in Greenham Commons, England determined to stop deployment of American nuclear cruise missles there. The vigil, mostly peaceful, all female, the longest such social action in British history, stayed encamped for as long as it took to achieve their goals.

We are happy to have Greenbelt’s own Leeann Irwin, who participated in the Greenham Commons action, with us to host the after film Q+A. Leeann spent many years active there and in similar actions elsewhere in Europe and here in the USA. She will share her experiences for what will be an uplifting evening of peace in action.

The free program starts at 7PM live in the Cafe. You can choose from a full dinner menu for the “meal” part of the evening.

You can also join via Zoom. Sign in starts at 6:30. For Zoom participants, register first at https://tinyurl.com/ReelDec18.
