The Big Scary “S” Word
Yael Bridge’s The Big Scary “S” Word is about the long history of American socialism, which brought about beneficial changes to society. These include taxpayer-funded fire departments, rural electric cooperatives, the interstate highway system and Social Security. Socialism was conceived as a fairer society for ordinary people. Its policies helped lift the country out of the Great Depression of the 1930s.
