Even our Dreams
Advocacy for women, girls and the disabled is the topic at this month’s Reel and Meal at the New Deal Cafe program. We are delighted to present this film program as a Women’s Month special on Monday, March 20th.
The film, Even Our Dreams, portrays the lives of Zimbabwean (African) people with disabilities: women and girls as well as men. All stories are inspirational, showing their capacities, challenges, thriving, bouyancy, and dreams.
The stories of these brave, strong women and disabled overcoming the difficulties imposed by abuse, neglect, poverty and so forth, are truly inspirational.
Sometimes just a little help and kindness from others is all it takes to overcome what would seem to be insurmountable odds. We meet some very remarkable people that can attest to this.
With us will be film maker, human and women’s rights advocate, and musician Nyari Mashayamombe. Coming from her home in Zimbabawe, she has been working at the United Nations Conference on the Status of Women in NYC. She will be here for the film and topic presentation and Q+A after the film.
The film program is free. You can attend live at the Cafe, with optional mask wearing. A full dinner menu is also available which includes a number of vegan meal options.
Nyari is also a musician with a fine voice. We will be treated to some live singing as a special part of the program.
You can register to attend via the zoom link. The zoom link for this month’s program is https://tinyurl.com/3xnm9277. Log online at 6:45 with prior registration. The program starts at 7PM, Monday March 20th.
