Art on the Walls

The New Deal Cafe provides a venue for local artists to exhibit and sell their work. We have a showroom and glass display cases, and every other month new artwork is featured. Join us at a reception to meet the creative talent behind the next exhibit.

If you’re an artist, we’d love to talk to you about having a show at the cafe.

The cafe’s art exhibits are mounted by the New Deal Cafe Art Committee and sponsored by the Friends of New Deal Cafe Arts with support from Prince George’s County. Your tax-deductible donation to FONDCA supports art at the cafe.

July – August 2016

Born out of Jungian Sandplay, a metaphorical view of life, and a belief in Mundis Imaginalis, Psychesdolls delight the eye and tickle the funny bone. Created with found stuff, purchased papers, and riff raff the likes of which are found only in a Magpie nest, the assemblage dolls share a charisma that captures the eye of the onlooker.

A public reception for this exhibit will be held on Sunday, July 24th, from 3pm to 5pm.

Neon Eve Abstraction B&W2 by Perry Dourus

Perry Douros is a writer and an artist who lived for decades in Los Angeles, CA and currently resides in Greenbelt, MD. He has written nine novels including the published “A Beautiful, Winged Madness” about the obstacles and triumphs of artists, love, death, and transcendence. For decades he was a painter but in recent years has created hundreds of digital artworks. He generally begins with either a concept, like a human condition, or an intriguing image and then does vast digital experimentation until a new, unique image emerges that often transcends the original intent and may become the source of a series. A collection of these images is presented in his art show “For the Inspired and the Aberrant”.
